It has also called public attention to the fact that the pharmaceutical company most likely to profit from women’s fear of developing breast cancer is the largest sponsor of “public education” programs on breast cancer awareness.

In a statement issued recently with the Boston chapter of the international environmental organization, Greenpeace, the Women’s Community Cancer Project announced:

“October has traditionally been Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We want October to be declared National Cancer Industry Awareness Month to expose the links between environmental pollution and skyrocketing cancer rates. The same companies that manufacture cancer-causing toxins profit from breast cancer treatment. The United Kingdom-based Zeneca Group, the largest sponsor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to date, has been sued by federal and state governments for dumping DDT and PCBs in California harbors. Zeneca is the manufacturer of tamoxifen, the most widely used breast cancer drug!”

Tamoxifen has been shown in numerous studies to reduce the rate of recurrence in older women with breast cancer. It is now the subject of an ongoing clinical trial involving healthy women at high risk for breast cancer to see if this drug will prevent the disease. There are anecdotal reports that many women are not waiting for the results of the trial but requesting the drug out of fear of developing breast cancer. Some consumer advocates are worried about the current trend toward lifelong drug therapy as prevention rather than investing in research to determine why breast cancer shows a steady increase in most industrialized countries (see HealthFacts, April 1994).

Breast Cancer Ribbon

These days almost every worthy cause finds itself a proper ribbon, without getting into the debate about the use of ribbons and how people use them, there are not many ribbons that I know of that are more important than the breast cancer ribbon.

Breast cancer is a dangerous enemy, while it is true that the awareness to its risks and the understanding of the prevention measures that need to be taken on a regular basis has increased over the years and had probably saved many lives, some people are still not aware of breast cancer and others prefer to live in some sort of denial.

So why is it important to use the pink ribbon and join the fight against breast cancer? First of all it shows the most important thing a person can show, it shows that you care, its shows that you are willing to give a little of your time or energy to try and educate more people, to warn some others and to maybe, just by doing this very small action contribute to saving a life. This is not a joke, sometimes awareness is all that separates the ill from the healthy and the dead from the living, we are at an age where people are learning of new dangers every day, and with all these upcoming potential dangers of terrorism and natural disasters breast cancer has been here long enough and has cause so much pain and suffering that it certainly deserves to be treated as something we should all remember, even on a daily basis.

Every October is the international breast cancer awareness month, this is the time to try and do the most to increase the public awareness of this disease, and educate woman about the ways they can fight breast cancer, this month is also dedicated to raising money for the many different organizations and foundations that are working all year round on helping victims of breast cancer, some of these patients have no money and no funds they can use to try and treat the cancer, and these organizations help them get the support that they need.

So all you got to do is just place one of these pink ribbons on your shirt of jacket, and show the solidarity you have with the breast cancer patients, the victims and the family and friends of those who have been effected by this terrible disease. Remember that you do not have to limit yourself only to the month of October, and that it is enough for only one person to ask you about this ribbon – once a year to make a huge difference, think about hundreds, if not thousands of people like you doing the same thing every day, and each one of these people is approached by an uneducated person, how many lives can be speared.

Lets hope that in the future the fight against breast cancer, as the fight against all kinds of cancer, will achieve its goals and that this disease will claim less victims, that modern medicine and science will find cures and that more and more people around the world will live healthier and happier lives.

Breast Cancer Wholesale Merchandise A Medium To Help Others

Breast cancer wholesale merchandise is being sold for the purpose of raising funds for breast cancer patients. Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer and this disease has taken the lives of millions of people, as in earlier years there was no known treatment for the cure of breast cancer, but fortunately now the patients of breast cancer are being recovered because of the development in the world of medicine, but an unfortunate part of this development is that the cost of the treatment, for the cure of breast cancer is very high and poor women, who are the sufferers of this chronicle and fatal disease cannot bear such expenses and this becomes the reason of an increased death toll of these patients. In order to bring positive change in this alarming situation, many charitable organizations are putting in great efforts and are doing commendable work, by providing free of cost treatment to the breast cancer patients.

In order to run the system in an accurate way, these charitable organizations take help from government and private sector and this makes them pretty much strong.

Americans unaware of number one cancer killer- reveals survey

MEN AND women worry about prostate and breast cancer, yet the number one cancer killer in the United States – lung cancer – isn’t on their radar. According to a survey released by the National Lung Cancer Partnership, Americans know little about lung cancer’s causes, symptoms and the number of lives it takes compared to other cancers.

The survey of 1,000 American men and women aged 18 and older found most women were unaware that lung cancer takes more women’s lives each year than even breast cancer. And they weren’t alone, most men surveyed were unaware that lung cancer takes more men’s lives each year than prostate cancer.

“Lung cancer is by far the number one cancer killer in the US, yet the disease isn’t on anyone’s top call of concern,” said Regina Vidaver, Ph.D., Executive Director of the National Lung Cancer Partnership.

“If we’re going to catch it early, treat it and give people the best chance for survival, they need to know about lung cancer and its symptoms, take measures to reduce their risk and talk with their doctor about their health history.”

The survey findings include:

* 80 percent of respondents did not know that lung cancer is the number one cancer killer in the United States

* Only 12 percent of respondents said they know the symptoms of lung cancer, which include a cough that won’t go away; pain in the back, chest or shoulders that won’t go away; shortness of breath;
unexplained wheezing; and coughing up blood, among other symptoms.

* 88 percent of those surveyed did not know that radon was the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that is formed by the natural decay of uranium in rock, soil, and water and can be found in all 50 states.

* Only 6 percent of respondents said they had talked to their doctor about their risk for lung cancer.

* Only 32 percent of those surveyed understood that half of all lung cancers occur in people who have already quit smoking. This lack of awareness of continued risk after quitting smoking may make people less likely to talk with their doctors about symptom recognition.

The survey did reveal some encouraging findings related to lung cancer awareness too. According to the national advocacy organization, 98 percent of men and women recognized that lung cancer does not just affect people who smoke. This finding shows that Americans’ perception that only smokers get lung cancer seems to be fading, and further education on lung cancer risk factors such as radon, second-hand smoke and family history of cancer will be crucial to helping people take appropriate measures to protect their health.

“This survey holds both good and bad news about the current state of lung cancer awareness in the United States,” said Dr. Vidaver. “Awareness can help decrease cancer death rates, as recent studies have shown, so it’s never been more important for Americans to understand that lung cancer is the country’s number one cancer killer.”

Why should charities use Twitter?

Building a support base with Twitter is easy. The best way to experience this is to sign up for a free account and start ‘following’ people of interest. Twitter’s widely acknolweged but unwritten etiquette infers that it’s fine to ‘follow’ people you don’t know. They can choose whether or not to follow you back – and, in my experience, people will almost always follow a good cause.

The next step is to consider what you’re going to do with your followers. Twitter presents unrivalled opporunities for building brand awareness. Posting once or twice a day will get your message in front of your followers. Make that message interesting, informative and even evocative – and your followers will re-tweet and discuss them, driving more followers towards you.

If building brand awareness with Twitter is as simple as posting once or twice a day, consider what’s possible with a bit of work. The miracle of Twitter – and the trick to successfully turning your Twitter following into a loyal support base – is to engage with your followers on a personal level. Charities doing this effectively include Greenpeace, The National Trust and the RSPB.

Once you have an established support base, the possibilities are endless.

Fronting a cause which is not known about? Testicular cancer would have been a case-in-point a few years ago. Twitter enables you to quickly and effectively raise awareness.

Promoting an event? Twitter offers a fast, free and effective way to get details in front of thousands of supporters.

Need to instantly gauge public reaction to something? Twitter has the answer! Pose the question and have real-world answers flooding in within minutes.

High profile support and/or comment? Water Aid used Twitter to direct the following question at Nick Clegg.

One final use of Twitter – although I couldn’t find an example – is as a means of providing your services. Dogsblog use Twitter to inform their followers every time a new dog comes up for adoption, but a debt charity – for example – could use the service to provide specific advice to individuals.

Pandora and Ford get together for Charity!

Car manufacturers Ford have teamed up with digital radio service Pandora to support national charities through sharing songs. The advertising campaign allows Pandora visitors to use a social feature to share a mix-tape from playlists compiled by Jewel or John Legend. Every time a song is shared, both companies will make a donation to the artist’s charity of choice.

Jewel’s chosen charity is the National Breast Cancer Foundation while John Legend is choosing to support the Show Me Campaign, an organisation that promotes equal access to good education. The programme features radio station mix options and original video content.

This is not the first time Ford has worked alongside Pandora; earlier this year, the motor company integrated the radio service into its SYNC experience through AppLink, software that lets drivers access and control selected smartphone apps through voice command. The latest collaboration is part of a bigger trend at Ford to use a marketing strategy that engages digital content creators in telling the Ford Birmingham story.

Matt Van Dyke, director of Ford US marketing communications said, “By partnering with content creators, we’re able to support niche programs that audiences truly enjoy. That helps Ford spend its marketing dollars more wisely, while creating user-advocates, rather than just bombarding potential customers with banner ads and 30-second spots.”

Ford is also currently working with content creators such as Podtrac and Revision3 Internet TV to expand its strategy. The ultimate goal is to weave Ford products and services into the world of the viewers.

Cancer men are a real catch. They are loyal, loving, faithful, caring and gentle. Cancerian men can be very sensitive and are not afraid to show their emotions and feelings but only after their feel completely comfortable within your presence. Cancer men can be incredibly understanding and compassionate and are very easy to talk to. You’ll find yourself revealing more about yourself to a Cancer man than any other man. They are very good listeners and are able to understand the psyche of the female mind. It is no wonder that so many women want to attract a Cancer man.

Once you are in a serious relationship with a Cancer man you can be sure that he will want commitment, marriage and a family. Basically Cancer men love to love and love to be loved. They make wonderful fathers and take family life very seriously and are not afraid of working hard to fulfill their role as husband and father. They are keepers and will remain faithful to you.

However the Cancer, like the other Water signs of Pisces and Scorpio, are prone to mood swings, feeling low and down and can easily slide into depression. Try to keep positive, upbeat and carefree when in his company.

Cancerian men can be difficult to get to know because they are reserved and private.

They are very romantic and passionate once they allow you into their inner world but because they are shy it can be difficult to attract a Cancer man in the first place.

How to attract a Cancer man – Top Tips

The sense of smell and the scent of a woman are extremely important when trying to attract a Cancer man. Your natural pheromone attractants can be greatly enhanced by natural floral perfumes that Cancerian men love. Find perfumes that contain magnolia, gardenia and/or lily of the valley and you won’t go far wrong in attracting a Cancer man.

Cancerian men like their women to be feminine, pretty and natural. So choose pastel colours, floral prints or delicate white outfits to attract a Cancer man. Keep makeup to a minimum and present him with a fresh faced, barely made up look and he’ll pay you attention. Brash, daring or dramatic colours and heavy makeup make Cancerian men run a mile.

It’s not what you say but it’s the way that you say that really counts when trying to attract a Cancer man. Cancerian men are emotional creatures and feelings mean more to them than witty comments or clever conversations. Show him you are passionate and caring by talking about the causes and charities you support. This shows him that you can really ‘feel’.

Silver is very alluring to Cancerian men, so ensure the jewellery you wear is silver when trying to attract a Cancer man.

Because Cancer is ruled by the Moon, its subjects tend to be dreamers. Whatever you do ensure you don’t ridicule or make fun of his hopes, dreams and aspirations, even if they seem fanciful, unrealistic and unattainable. Because of their sensitivity Cancer men can recoil into their shell if they feel prodded and poked by criticism.

Connect physically, mentally and emotionally with a Cancer man and you’ll be so happy you did!

Breast cancer continues to affect millions of people worldwide – plunging newly diagnosed sufferers and their families into the bewildering world of treatment plans and statistics on a daily basis.

This year alone, over one-million people worldwide will be unwillingly inducted into this club of warriors. And strong in numbers, these sufferers and their families will continue to affect change in the landscape of awareness and treatment; part of the way in which they raise awareness is through the wearing of merchandise, including the breast cancer bracelet.

The breast cancer bracelet can attribute its beginnings to the awareness campaign, where the pink ribbon first became the symbol in the united fight. The Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation – which began in the early 1980s as a way to funnel comprehensive information to victims and raise money for research – began using the pink ribbon in the early years of its Race for the Cure, the annual run/walk fundraising event that is the signature event of this foundation.

The early beginnings of the pink ribbon were brought to the forefront as Self magazine planned their second annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month issue in the early 1990s. In this effort, the magazine partnered with Estee Lauder to create the looped pink ribbon we have now come to recognize; over a million of which were distributed at makeup counters around the country to coincide with the distribution of the magazine. The ribbon included instructions on self examination and information on how to petition Washington to increase funds for research. The color pink was chosen because of its strong association with femininity.

With the growing popularity of the pink ribbon, came the further development of other pink items to signify awareness. The items have since come fast and furious – from t-shirts and pins, to umbrellas and mugs. The breast cancer bracelet, especially, has achieved enormous popularity as the message of awareness is encapsulated in a beautifully designed – and very wearable – bracelet.

The bracelet is just like any other bracelet that you would think nothing of buying and wearing; but you have the added benefit of knowing that in wearing the bracelet you are promoting awareness and, in so doing, are part of a community that is saving lives.

The bracelet comes in a variety of styles and prices – everything from pearls and crystal to silver and gold. No matter what your style or taste in jewelry, there will surely be a bracelet that draws your attention and furthers the message of awareness. In today’s online world especially, there is a growing number of websites dedicated to the sale of pink awareness merchandise.

This awareness encompasses many different things when it comes to the battle against breast cancer. Raising awareness means increasing people’s understanding of research, prevention, detection, and treatment. But more importantly, raising awareness – through the wearing of insignia such as the bracelet – means alerting those who are affected to a larger community; a community of enormous support and infinite understanding.

Many companies get involved with charitable events and the likes of RSA Motability, DWF and Motability Operations are no exception. A team of cyclists recently completed a 285 mile trip from Liverpool to Bristol in three days raising just shy of £7000 for charities such as Motability, the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.

The seven cyclists moved at a clear 100 miles per day through Brecon Beacons National Park and Snowdonia as well as through other rough terrain in order to complete the three day event.

Hazel Gotfraind, Motability’s Fundraising and Marketing Director has stated that the charity are extremely grateful to RSA Motability for organising the event and that special thanks goes to those who took part. Every year RSA Motability raise many thousands of pounds for Motability cars, helping disabled people across the UK to get the right car or adaptations to enable them to live their life independently without having to rely on others for help.

The RSA Motability’s Corporate Relationship Manager, Mark Jackson has also stated that as Motability’s insurance provider they see on a daily basis what difference a Motability car can make to disabled people and their families. He has stated that he is extremely proud of the cyclists for their undoubtedly hard work and effort they have put in to completing both the event and the previous training and that the team of cyclists raised a lot of money for three very worthwhile causes.

Without the support of other companies such as Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Autoglass, Quality Repair Centres, Ai Claims Solutions, Plexus, Murphy & o’Rawe, R-ISC Investigation & Surveillance Co, HBM Sayers and also Tughans & Sherwoods the team would not have been able to raise as much money as they would have wanted for motability cars, Kent and the rest of UK will benefit from the money as well as any future people who become involved with the charities.

Cancer Wristband

Breast cancer is the second cause of cancer death among women, second only to lung cancer. Although the estimated number of new cases in 2007 is relatively lower than the previous years, breast cancer advocates have not ceased. They continue to find ways to increase awareness of the disease, raise funds for its research, and help in any way they can to support the advocacy. One way to do all these is through the breast cancer bracelet.

It was Lance Armstrong who popularized the use of bracelets as a means to make a statement. The yellow bracelet that he wore in the Tour de France caused quite a stir and people asked what the wristband was about. As a cancer survivor himself, the words “Live Strong” on the bracelet conveyed a very important message to cancer victims and survivors like him.

Since then, the pink rubber bracelet has become popular with breast cancer fund-raising activities such as breast cancer walks and runs. Words like “Hope” or “Courage and Strength” are often embossed or etched around it.

Different colors have different meanings. Some manufacturers have general awareness bracelets in different colors, each color to signify a specific advocacy, whether medically or politically related. For example, the color red symbolizes AIDS and HIV. Lavender, on the other hand, symbolizes general cancer and epilepsy. For blue, it can mean child abuse or education. Purple can symbolize domestic violence and Alzheimer’s disease. Teal can be a color to symbolize ovarian cancer, sexual assault or substance abuse.

The color pink was used because of its properties. Aside from being of the same color as the breast cancer ribbon, its bright and lively color brings a positive vibe to cancer patients. It gives them hope that breast cancer can be treated and cured. If we wear the bracelet, it will make us feel our love and support. And more importantly, pink is considered a feminine color, a color that is present in any woman’s closet, and this makes the bracelet easy to match and coordinate with a woman’s wardrobe and accessories.

From the pink rubber bracelet evolved many designs and materials for the new breast cancer bracelet. It has now become an interesting piece of jewelry. Now we can find bracelets in gold and silver. Some are made of glass beads, gemstones, pearls and Swarovski crystals. A simple charm bracelet, when added with a silver or pink breast cancer ribbon charm, can be a breast cancer bracelet. Some continue to have messages like “Faith Hope and Love” or “Survivor.” There are even some distributors who make customized bracelets, such as if you want the person’s name etched on it, or if you want to add more charms or your birthstone. This makes the bracelet the perfect gift present or token, perhaps of friendship or love.

For every purchase of these products, a portion of the money goes to cancer research. Companies have raised millions of dollars from the sales of these bracelets, all to help the cancer research foundation. This is an effective way to raise funds and intensify breast cancer awareness, not to mention fun and exciting. And these bracelets can be purchased anywhere. You can search the web, or visit your local department store.

All the efforts to raise funds and increase awareness are not in vain. At present, there is a decline in the number of deaths caused by breast cancer. This is attributed to an increase in awareness, with many breast self-exam campaigns and more money to fund mammogram tests. Thus, more women seek treatment during the early stages of breast cancer. Also, cancer research is doing its share to find and create new medicine as well as modern technology and equipment to fight cancer.

The breast cancer bracelet is more than just a fashion statement. Its message of hope and love for those who have the illness makes it more meaningful and inspirational. Wear the bracelet now. Men and woman, young and old alike, should express their support to this endeavor. After all, the fight against cancer is universal. No one can confidently say that she is 100% immune from breast cancer. It may affect you, or someone you love. So whatever support that you give now will actually benefit everybody else, including you.
